"A lot of people wrote me off' - Kelechi Iheanacho reflects on his early struggles at Leicester City
Super Eagles of Nigeria striker, Kelechi Iheanacho has opened up on his early struggles when he joined Leicester City.Manchester City sold Iheanacho to the Foxes on a five-year contract worth £25 million, but he performed miserably when he joined which led to some critics questioning manager, Brendan Rodgers’ decision to not offload him.His below par performances not only cost him a place in the Leicester squad but he was also axed from Gernot Rohr’s Nigeria team to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations squad staged in Egypt. He is now in a rich vein of form and has scored 18 goals in 36 appearances to overtake Jamie Vardy as the club’s top scorer this season and says he is focused on just working hard. Reflecting on his struggles to BBC Sport Africa, Iheanacho said: "I think a lot of people wrote me off, but I never lost faith in myself."I was going through a crazy and difficult time when things just didn't work out for me."But I've worked extremely hard, and also have the manager and other staff at Leicester, and most importantly my brother and friend Wilfred [Ndidi] who stood by me."It's been a really tough ride, but I'm just delighted it's all come together for me."He added: "It was truly a bad patch and we all know that some people are always too quick to judge," he continued."To hear some people come out now and start saying positive things again is only normal but I don't even bother."I only have to prove to myself that I can do this consistently, continue to grow, help my club and country when I get the chance to play."We have a lot ahead of us. It's that time of the season where you want to fight for everything in front of you and not get carried away."Iheanacho is expected to lead the Foxes’ attacking line-up against Chelsea in Saturday’s FA Cup final. The post "A lot of people wrote me off' - Kelechi Iheanacho reflects on his early struggles at Leicester City appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

Why we banned open grazing in Southern Nigeria - Gov Akeredolu
The governors of the seventeen Southern states on Tuesday, May 11, met in Delta state where they banned open grazing and called on President Buhari to address Nigerians on the challenges of insecurity. Chairman of the Southern Governor’s Forum and Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, read the communique from the meeting. Read here. In an interview with Arise TV on Wednesday, May 12, Governor Akeredolu explained why the Southern Governors Forum placed a ban on open grazing of cows in states across the region. In his words“It is not an entirely new issue. Most of the governors have placed a ban on open grazing in their states before the meeting. We looked at what is happening in our respective states. Most of the states have passed laws on open grazing. Virtually all of us have passed that law. We felt that this open grazing must stop. It is causing a lot of problems particularly between the herders and the farmers.Whether we like it or not, times have changed and this must change. We must adopt a modern system of animal husbandry. In this day and age, they cannot continue taking cows by foot from Kano to Port Harcourt,” he said. Governor Akeredolu said the Federal Government needs to throw its weight behind state governments that want to set up ranches. According to him, this would benefit herders who are exposed to dangers as they roam with their cattle.“At the meeting, we referred to what Governor Ganduje said. It was clear that he is also against open grazing. He says it does not augur well and the herders also do not benefit from it. There is no development, they are exposed to dangers. That why we suggested that the Federal Government should intervene to help these herders. The Federal government should give money for ranches to be created. That is why it is part of our recommendation that states who want to create ranches be supported.” he saidThe post Why we banned open grazing in Southern Nigeria - Gov Akeredolu appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

Transgender woman, 'Iconic Facce' is jailed for 15 years for robbing a bank of $4,800 to pay for cosmetic surgery
A transgender woman has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for robbing a Mississippi bank to pay for her plastic surgery in Mexico. The woman, who calls herself Iconic Facce, robbed BancorpSouth in Gulfport on February 22, 2019, after approaching a teller before telling her you have 'one minute' to hand over cash 'or die'. According to reports, she made away with $4,800 and used the money to fly to Mexico where she used it to fluff up her cheeks, perfect her pout and thin out her nose. When she returned to the U.S. on March 30, she tried to quietly get through Houston Airport without being noticed but her swollen, puffy cheeks and bandaged nose gave her away to the officers, who were waiting at the airport to arrest her. Authorities tracked her by tracing the cellphone she used on the day of the robbery which they then followed to the airport, to Mexico, and back again. This week, after a two-year legal saga, she admitted robbery and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Back in 2019, Mississippi police released surveillance footage of the transgender woman entering the bank, wearing sunglasses, a wig, a striped shirt, and pants, before approaching the teller. Facce - formerly known as Jimmy Lewis then handed the female teller a note which read: 'you have 1 minute to give the money do not be wrong are die'. From June 2007 to January 2008, Lewis was said to have robbed banks in Alabama by passing threatening notes in Cleveland, Decatur, and Lenoir City in Tennessee. She was arrested in 2008 in Los Angeles on arrival with a flight from Mexico when one of her aliases was spotted by border agents. According to police reports, Lewis threatened the life of a teller, saying in a note: 'No games, no jokes and get your hands up. Don't mash any alarms. 'Don't move or she's had it.' Lewis was sentenced to 51 months behind bars and probation for the robbery. Iyabo Ojo releases her full chat with Yomi Fabiyi to show the real picture of their conversation
Iyabo Ojo has released her full chat with Yomi Fabiyi to show her followers that the part he shared, where she was apologizing to him, doesn't show the full picture. In the chats shared by Yomi, Iyabo apologized for exposing him to cyberbullies. Yomi said it's his proof that she admitted to cyberbullying and he threatened her (read here). But in the full chat released by Iyabo, it shows Yomi telling her about the "kind regard" he has for her and said he will be the last one to "come for your words or post". He told her he was hurt that she called him out for his words in a video where his utterances gave the impression that he was leaning towards supporting Baba Ijesha. "When you see the video, knowing how much I value you, you should call me before attacking my stance," Yomi told Iyabo and added that her post made people subject him to cyberbullying. This is the point when Iyabo then said she was sorry he was cyberbullied but reiterated that she will keep speaking for the victim. After sharing the full chat, Iyabo warned Yomi Fabiyi that she's not the one to mess with. She warned him that he can't make peace with her on WhatsApp then go online to use her name to chase clout. See the full chat below. The post Iyabo Ojo releases her full chat with Yomi Fabiyi to show the real picture of their conversation appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

We will keep Baba Ijesha till court workers resume from strike - Lagos police commissioners tells Yomi Fabiyi and other protesters
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu has said that actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka a.k.a Baba Ijesha will be kept in custody till the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria calls off its nationwide strike and courts resume so that he could be arraigned. Odumosu said this in response to the protest Baba Ijesha's friend and colleague Yomi Fabiyi, and others held on Wednesday May 12 at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, Yaba, for his release on bail. The police commissioner also disclosed that Baba Ijesha has been held in custody based on legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions in the state Ministry of Justice, and after a prima facie case had been established against him. He said; “When they got the SCIID today (Wednesday), they were advised by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the SCIID, and he told them that we have done our work and sought legal advice from the Ministry of Justice and the advice was that we should still keep him in our custody.“When we concluded our investigation, we forwarded our report to the ministry for legal advice. The ministry advised us through the Office of the Public Defender. The legal advice was that there was a prima facie case established against him and some sections of the law were quoted in the advice. So, the advice was that he should still remain in our custody and to be charged for that.” Also revealing that Baba Ijesha's continous detention will be reviewed if JUSUN strike continues indefinitely, the police chief further disclosed that court workers have agreed to work for three days and continue their strike on the remaining two working days of the week.
