Woman accuses Hillsong church of failing to act after she accused the son of two pastors of sexual misconduct

A woman named Lereko Melissa has accused Hillsong Church in Oxford of enabling the son of two pastors who sexually harassed her while she was a member of the church. Lereko claims she was a chorister, together with Joshua Barwell, and during that period, he made sexually suggestive comments towards her. She said the comments sometimes came prior to them leading worship together. She said the comments made her uncomfortable and she told him about it. She claims he toned it down a bit but later went back to his old ways. She added that "given the toxic environment that prevailed over Hillsong Chruch (as a result of abusive leadership) and the fact that the Pastors of the church were Josh's parents, I felt that I was in no position to seek their help." As she was afraid of the consequences of reporting Joshua Barwell to his pastor parents and other pastors, she said she began wearing "drape-like clothing" to hide her body shape so that he will stop making sexual comments. She said she eventually left the church and sent a mail, reporting the abuse. She claims the church promised to investigate the alleged sexual misconduct but they haven't done anything since then. She added that she shared her story online to "provide his other victims with another ally and cultivate a safe and supportive space in which they can come forward and share their own ill experiences with Josh, and highlight how their individual churches have failed them." She also shared screenshots of the email exchange between her and the church after she reported the alleged sexual abuse to them. Read her post below.  The post Woman accuses Hillsong church of failing to act after she accused the son of two pastors of sexual misconduct appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

Nigeria will break if we release list of those who have received contracts from NDDC- Cairo Ojougboh

The executive director of projects at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Cairo Ojougboh, says Nigeria will break if the commission releases the list of highly placed Nigerians who have benefitted from contracts awarded by the commission. The NDDC has been in the spotlight after the National Assembly launched an investigation into allegations of financial recklessness in the commission. The investigation took a different turn when the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, accused members of the National Assembly of being the largest beneficiaries of contracts awarded by the Commission. Peter Nwaoboshi, senate committee chairman on NDDC; Matthew Urhoghide, senate committee chairman on public accounts, and James Manager, senator representing Delta South were some of the beneficiaries listed by the minister. The Senate and the National Assembly have also denied the allegations of its members benefitting from the contracts awarded by the commission. In an interview with Vanguard, Ojougboh said Nwaoboshi and Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on NDDC, and the rest of the National Assembly “are culpable” in the sleaze contracts. He said Nigeria will break if the full list of beneficiaries of contracts is released. “The National Assembly is culpable. At the end of the forensic audit, you will see members of the national assembly. A senator came and said that in the list of 2016 they brought, that he had only six contracts, I said no, that he had more. What he didn’t know is that we did not release the list for 2017 and the one for 2019. If we release it this country will break.“Oh, because of the people looting, the calibre, the names and people looting the NDDC. And who engineers it? The chairmen of the NDDC in the senate and house of representatives in the national assembly.” he said Ojougboh said the N51 million spent by the acting managing director of the commission was their ''security vote''.“My MD feeds 100 policemen every day and in Port Harcourt as an executive of NDDC, you need security more than anything, till tomorrow, you know of it. When they are sending these policemen, the instruction is to feed them, cater for them, that is what is in the letter the police hierarchy sends,” he saidSo people are talking about 51 million of imprest for the MD, it is a security vote, it’s not for his personal pocket, the money does not go to the MD’s account.Myself, N18 million, it does not go to my account, it goes for security and other expenses and it is retired, there is no fraud in it.” On the N3.14 billion spent on COVID-19 relief for staff during the pandemic, the NDDC director said “They are talking about COVID-19 payment, the federal government is given every citizen N30,000 each, do you know how much the federal government has spent? The CBN and many other corporations have been giving COVID-19 allowances, which are within their purview, just like NDDC did.In the national assembly, each of the senators got N20 million, while the house of representatives members got N15 million for COVID-19 from the national assembly.” he saidThe post Nigeria will break if we release list of those who have received contracts from NDDC- Cairo Ojougboh appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

Teen mum may be executed after failing to report her toddler daughter had gone missing for two months

An American teenager could face being executed after she failed to report her toddler daughter had gone missing for two months. 19-year-old, Megan Boswell, could face the death penalty if it is found she murdered her own daughter, 15-month-old Evelyn. The mysterious death was exposed in March this year when concerned granddad Tommy Boswell grew suspicious after not seeing his young granddaughter for a number of weeks. Little Evelyn was reportedly last seen alive in December last year and she was not reported missing until February. After she was reported missing, her remains were then tragically uncovered in a garden shed by granddad Tommy the following month. Reports have suggested the toddler died around the same time she went missing. The Metro reports that prosecutors in the case believe Evelyn died due to abuse or neglect, although an exact cause of death is yet to be revealed. The report also states prosecutors are debating whether to push for the death penalty or life behind bars for Megan, if she be proven guilty.  A court hearing was held via video link on Friday which saw Megan deny charges against her, which included crimes of abusing a corpse over claims the toddler’s body was moved after her death. The defendant is also accused of lying about her daughter’s disappearance, and for blaming it on the young girl’s father, Ethan Perry. Ethan was on military service at the time of Evelyn’s disappearance and is not a suspect in the case. Metro also states: “The alleged killer mom is also said to have implicated her own mother Angela Boswell, 42, after claiming Evelyn had disappeared when Angela took her camping. “Angela Boswell and William McCloud currently face theft charges over a BMW linked to Evelyn’s disappearance, and remain in jail while a grand jury considers charges against them.” A Sullivan County Grand Jury returned a 19-count indictment against Boswell last week, charging Boswell with two counts of felony murder, one count of aggravated child abuse, one count of aggravated child neglect, one count of tampering with evidence, 12 counts of false reporting, one count of abuse of a corpse, one count of failure to report a death under suspicious or unusual circumstances. The post Teen mum may be executed after failing to report her toddler daughter had gone missing for two months appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

Man stabbed to death for accusing neighbor of sleeping with co-tenant’s wife in Lagos

The police in Lagos state is currently on the trail of a man identified as Adekunle Adeyemi, for allegedly stabbing a co-tenant, Stanley Dickson, to death in the Grammar School area of Ikorodu, Lagos State. According to a report by Punch, Stanley, Adekunle and one Arinze Onuoha, lived in the same compound. Stanley saw the ''close relationship'' Adekunle had with Arinze's wife had and interpreted it to mean they were having an affair. He informed Arinze's mother who informed Arinze who confronted Adekunle. During the confrontation, Arinze told Adekunle that it was Stanley who alleged he was having an affair with his wife. Livid by Stanley's claim, Adekunle decided to wait until he returned from work before confronting Stanley. When he finally got the opportunity to confront Stanley, they had a heated argument that degenerated into a fight that led to Stanley's death. A resident of the area, Ibidunni Adegoke, who spoke on the incident said“The victim (Stanley) went to report his neighbour’s wife, Chisom, to her mother-in-law that another neighbour, Adekunle, was having sexual relations with her. From what we gathered, all of them live in the same building and Adekunle had been assisting Chismo with money to feed her family whenever her husband, Arinze, did not provide money for them to feed. So, because of that, he concluded that they were in a relationship and went ahead to inform Arinze’s mother. When Arinze was informed, he had a shouting match with Adekunle, who later got to know that Stanley was the person, who accused him of having an affair with the woman. So, Adekunle left for work but promised to have a word with Stanley when he returned. In the evening, when both of them had returned from work, an argument ensued between Adekunle and Stanley and it degenerated into a fight. When Adekunle was overpowering Stanley, the latter instructed his wife in Igbo language her to bring a knife, which he used in stabbing Adekunle’s leg. Adekunle later dispossessed him of the knife and used it to stab Stanley in the chest. After stabbing him, he pinned Stanley to the ground until he died.” Another resident, Omotola Aderibigbe, said“The fight happened around 2am; so, when Adekunle realised that Stanley had died, he came out of the room, threatened everyone not to move close to him, instructed his wife to help him get something and fled from home. It was people in the area who informed the police and when they came, they arrested Adekunle’s wife and took the corpse away.“Other residents have deserted the house because all of them are scared because of what happened.” Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, Bala Elkana, said“On July 30, 2020, around 1.30pm, one Glory Dickson of No. 9 Red Block Street, Grammar School area of Ikorodu, Lagos, came to the charge room and reported that a neighbour, Adekunle Adeyemi, came to their room to challenge her husband, Stanley Dickson, that he told one Arinze Onuoha, a co-tenant, that he was having an affair with his wife, Chisom Onuoha.“This led to an argument and in the process, the said Adekunle Adeyemi stabbed her husband with a knife in the left side of his chest. The victim was rushed to the Ikorodu General Hospital by sympathisers, where he was pronounced dead.“The body was brought back home. A team of detectives led by the DCO, DSP Uzoma Martins, moved to the scene and the victim was found dead on the floor of his apartment. The entire compound has been deserted.“On observation of the victim, marks of violence were seen on the left side of his chest; the corpse was evacuated to the Ikorodu General Hospital’s mortuary for autopsy and one Mariam Ismail, 30, partner of the suspected murderer, is assisting in the investigation. The case has been transferred to the Homicide Section, SCIID, Panti, for further investigation and we have launched a manhunt for the suspect.”The post Man stabbed to death for accusing neighbor of sleeping with co-tenants wife in Lagos appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

'Hitman' accuses Bafana Bafana captain, Senzo Meyiwa's babymama of plotting his murder

'Hitman' accuses Bafana Bafana captain, Senzo Meyiwa's babymama of plotting his murder lindaikejisblogOne of the suspects linked to the murder of former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper and Orlando Pirates captain Senzo Meyiwa,  has allegedly implicated his baby mama and singer Kelly Khumalo in the murder. City Press reported that the hitman in a confession made before a magistrate in June, six years after Senzo Meyiwa’s death, alleged that the plot was hatched in a mall in Johannesburg.  Though no arrest has been made so far, it was however learnt that investigators have submitted the docket to prosecutors to obtain warrants of arrests for all implicated in the murder. 'Hitman' accuses Bafana Bafana captain, Senzo Meyiwa's babymama of plotting his murder lindaikejisblog 2 Insiders told the publication that a crack team of investigators appointed by Police Minister Bheki Cele, took eight months to wrap up investigations that had been stalled for years. “We have a watertight case. We’ve managed to track down a firearm that was used to kill Senzo. The ballistic test results have positively linked the suspects to the murder, which we’ve established was premeditated." In the detailed report dated 30 June 2020, it was alleged that Khumalo initiated the murder plot because the footballer reneged on his promise of marrying her and giving her money. The alleged hitmen also claimed they demanded R400, 000 for the job due to Meyiwa’s status.  'Hitman' accuses Bafana Bafana captain, Senzo Meyiwa's babymama of plotting his murder lindaikejisblog 3 After the alleged negotiation, the money was brought down to R250 000 upfront and it was also expected that the balance will be paid within two months of completion of the job. After the meeting, the hitmen reportedly visited a well-known sangoma (native doctor) whom they asked to perform a ritual so that the hit would be successful. The healer confirmed these claims and also narrated how he prepared a charm for the suspects.  Khumalo was also accused of reneging of paying for the murder of her baby daddy as agreed. When contacted for comment, City Press reported that the singer said: “Thank you for informing me. All the best with your story” When the report was released on Sunday August 30, she also maintained a business-as-usual stance instead of feeding into attacks launched against her.  'Hitman' accuses Bafana Bafana captain, Senzo Meyiwa's babymama of plotting his murder lindaikejisblog 1The post 'Hitman' accuses Bafana Bafana captain, Senzo Meyiwa's babymama of plotting his murder appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

George Floyd's killer, Derek Chauvin reportedly asks a judge to dismiss his case

Former Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin has reportedly asked a judge to dismiss murder charges against him in the death of George Floyd.  In court papers, defense attorneys for Chauvin said there is no probable cause to support charges of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter. They asked a judge to dismiss the murder charges against him, arguing that Floyd's alleged drug use, not the improper use of force by the officer, was to blame for his death. Meanwhile, prosecutors said on Friday August 28, that they are planning to seek a harsher sentence for the ex-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who is one of four charged for the murder of George Floyd.  According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison informed Peter Cahill, the judge in Floyd murder case he will be seeking a harsher sentence for Chauvin, for several reasons. The Minnesota Attorney General says the murder was “especially heinous” because Floyd was killed in front of children.  In the legal docs, Ellison noted that Floyd was in a "particularly vulnerable" state because he was handcuffed and chest down on the pavement, repeatedly telling Chauvin and the other officers he could not breathe. Chauvin is facing up to 40 years in prison if convicted of the second-degree murder charge. His former colleagues, J. Alexander Kueng, Tou Thao, and Thomas Lane, are each charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter. The post George Floyd's killer, Derek Chauvin reportedly asks a judge to dismiss his case appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

Constitution review is a waste of time and energy - Northern Elders

Constitution review is a waste of time and energy - Northern Elders lindaikejisblogThe Northern Elders Forum has criticized the 9th senate's move to review the 1999 constitution.  The NEF in a statement released after the constitution review ad hoc committee chairman, Ovie Omo-Agege asked the general public, executive and judicial bodies, civil society organisations, professional bodies and other interest groups to submit memoranda or proposals for further alteration(s) of the 1999 constitution within two weeks from August 26, described the proposal as a waste of time, energy and the nation's resources.  The Northern Elders who noted that the recent attempt of reviewing the constitution is not likely to bring in any genuine effort to address the basic requirements of securing a stable, secure and prosperous Nigeria, added that the Legislature and executive branches of government have large quantities of reviews, recommendations and reports from past attempts at amending the Constitution. The statement read;  “The Forum is convinced that this repetitive initiative of the Senate is of no value and a predictable waste of time, resources and energy of the nation, and should not be supported by Nigerians being alarmed by waste in governance at this difficult time when the economy is facing unprecedented challenges. “Virtually every National Assembly since 1999 had spent huge amounts of Nigerian people’s money on jamborees that give them false hope that the three arms of government respect the overwhelming desire of Nigerians for a holistic and genuine review and amendment of the 1999 Constitution. Nothing fundamental or of any value has come out of these grand schemes to exploit our collective desire to address our political and economic fundamentals. This National Assembly is also following suit, and it should not be encouraged on this path.“Nigeria’s future rests largely on its willingness to address major constraints to equity and justice, a functional structure, consistent good governance, security for all citizens, a credible electoral process, growing understanding between and among all groups and an economy that grows and narrows inequalities between and classes and regions. This cannot be achieved by a process that routinizes wasteful expenditure around false hopes.“The Legislature and executive branches of government have large quantities of reviews, recommendations and reports from past attempts at amending the Constitution. These represent enough resources for a review if the legislature is serious about this vital national priority. Even this is not likely to produce a genuine effort to address the basic requirements of securing a stable, secure and prosperous Nigeria, because both arms of this administration are unlikely to accept to put through wide-ranging reviews of the Constitution. The Forum specifically reminds legislators and other leaders from the North that security of our communities, reduction of crushing poverty and widening distrust among communities should be their priorities.“The Northern Elders Forum recommends the alternative of leaders of thought, elders, groups and professional organizations and representatives of government to freely discuss every element of our co-existence as a country under principles of voluntarism, genuine representation mutual respect and integrity of the process.“A Nigerian Peoples’ Conference on Review of the Constitution will benefit from past work in this direction in addition to contemporary challenges which the country needs to address in a context that allows free and productive engagements without pre-determined ends.“The outcome of this Conference should be submitted to the two arms of government which should provide for a referendum in the Constitution so that Nigerians can directly decide on how they want their nation to be structured and function.“The North is willing to discuss other options that will do justice to the current Constitution and the future of our great country.“The Forum invites attention of particularly northern groups to be wary of being railroaded into making submissions which the legislature will hold up as input, further justifying waste and deceit.“No northern group should encourage further waste of public funds which should be channeled into battling killers, kidnappers, poverty and poor governance.“The North wants a major review of the Constitution, but it is also ready to resist attempts to create wealth for a few while it leaves parts of the country to quarrel and blame each other for the state of the nation.“Northerners are willing to discuss current challenges of the region and the state of the country with any group, anywhere, provided it sees evidence of sincerity and respect for each other.“We advise the National Assembly to direct its energy and mandate towards convincing President Muhammadu Buhari to bring an end to the insurgency in the North East and killings in most parts of North Central and North West and other parts of the country.“We advise the Senate to jettison the wasteful idea of giving Nigerians the impression that it is involved in a serious review of our Constitution.”The post Constitution review is a waste of time and energy - Northern Elders appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

The 2020 MTV Video Music Awards held last night, August 30, 2020, with performances that aired from different locations in New York City due to the Covid-19 pandemic.  Keke Palmer who hosted the event from an outdoor set near the Empire State Building kicked off the ceremony with a pre-recorded video honoring Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, who died at age 43 on Friday August 28, after a four-year battle with colon cancer. Boseman was “a true hero”, said Palmer, “not just on screen, but in everything he did.” Lady Gaga, who led the evening with nine nominations alongside Arina Grande, won five honours at the MTV Video Music Awards. The singer received awards for artist of the year, song of the year, best cinematography and best collaboration for Rain on Me and the inaugural Tricon award, which recognizes an artist who is highly accomplished across three or more disciplines. “Just because we’re separated right now, and culture may feels less alive in some ways, I know a Renaissance is coming,” Gaga said during her final acceptance speech. “Stay safe, speak your mind, and I might sound like a broken record, but wear a mask — it’s a sign of respect.” Ariana Grande walked away with four wins, while The Weeknd nabbed two and dedicated his awards speeches to justice for Jacob Blake and Breonna Taylor. See full list of winners below.   Video of the YearWINNER: The Weeknd: "Blinding Lights" – XO / Republic RecordsBillie Eilish: "Everything I Wanted" – Darkroom / Interscope RecordsEminem ft. Adele is criticized for wearing traditional African hairstyle

Adele was hit with criticism online over a picture of herself she shared to Instagram. In the photo, the singer is seen wearing her hair in traditional African Bantu knots along with a bikini top printed with the Jamaican flag. The singer captioned the photo, “Happy what would be Notting Hill Carnival my beloved London.”  The Notting Hill Carnival is held annually in London as a way to celebrate Black British culture. It has taken place since 1966, but was held online this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. As a result of the photo, the singer’s name began trending on Twitter as people accused her of cultural appropriation and expressed shock that she would wear the hair style. Journalists Jemele Hill and Ernest Owens had strong reactions to the photo. “If 2020 couldn’t get anymore bizarre, Adele is giving us Bantu knots and cultural appropriation that nobody asked for. This officially marks all of the top white women in pop as problematic. Hate to see it,” Owens tweeted. Below are more reactions from Twitter users. The post Adele is criticized for wearing traditional African hairstyle appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.
