If you don't trust them and they say they want to go, why are you then stopping them? Dele Momodu speaks on alleged marginalization of Igbos in Nigeria (video)

Dele Momodu, the publisher of Ovation International, has questioned why Igbos are being denied presidency and other key positions in Nigeria, including the position of IGP. In a video shared online, he pointed out that no man will easily accept being treated that way in his own country. "How can anybody say an Igbo man cannot be president of Nigeria and I'll accept it? Then it shows how brainless I am. "If I'm the president of Nigeria today, I'd have turned South-East Nigeria into the hub, our own Silicon Valley. "These are people endowed. They're as brilliant as the Chinese, the Koreans and the Inidans put together. "We have them, why are we not using them? "But because there was a civil war before, and we said we have forgiven ourselves, so you've forgiven yourselves but an Igbo man cannot become anything in Nigeria, cannot be President, cannot be trusted to be Inspector General of Police, why?"  He added: "If you don't trust them and they say they want to go, why are you then stopping them?" He further mentioned that Igbos are doing great things in Nigeria and abroad yet have been denied key positions in Nigerian leadership.   Watch him speak in the video below.       View this post on Instagram           A post shared by Lindaikejiblog (@lindaikejiblogofficial)The post If you don't trust them and they say they want to go, why are you then stopping them? My generation did a lot wrong. Make it uncomfortable for old leaders to remain in government - Obasanjo tells Nigerian youths

My generation did a lot of wrong, make it uncomfortable for old leaders to remain in government - Obasanjo Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has asked Nigerian youths to make it uncomfortable for old leaders to remain in government. Speaking during a virtual interview with academic and historian Toyin Falola, the former President admitted his generation did a lot of wrong and also apologized to the youths.  Obasanjo who noted that things are bad in the country, said Nigeria's fortune might change when youths step up. He said;  “You (youths) have everything going for you and I don’t want you to feel discouraged. Things are bad in Nigeria but I believe it is only for a short while because it depends on you.“Whatever my generation might have done wrong –and I will be the first to admit that my generation has done a lot of wrong, (but) it is for your generation to do it better.“Don’t just sit down and complain. Sitting down and complaining will make you be on the same level and you have to get what I called critical mass of likeminded people who will be ready to say let us bring about the change. You can bring about the change if you get critical mass of people that are ready to slug it out.“When people say when will these old hags go out of the way? I tell them they won’t go out of the way, you have to make them go out of the way. They won’t voluntarily go out of the way, you have to make it uncomfortable for them; I am not talking of violence but bringing pressure to bear to make it uncomfortable for them to go out of the way.”The post My generation did a lot wrong. Wear your face masks to avoid another lockdown - Presidency warns Nigerians

The Presidency has warned Nigerians to obey all the COVID19 protocols which include wearing a face mask so as to avoid the government from imposing another lockdown. The warning came via a statement signed and released by Garba Shehu, senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity. The presidency said it is worried by reports of non-compliance with the executive order signed by President Buhari on January 27 that mandates the use of face masks and social distancing. The law stipulates that any defaulter of the COVID19 protocols will be asked to pay a fine or sentenced to 6 months in jail or both. According to the statement, President Muhammadu Buhari signed the executive order with the best of intentions and not with the motive of punishing citizens. “The Presidency is worried by reports of non-compliance with just signed executive order that makes mask-wearing and observation of social distancing in the public mandatory, appealing to Nigerians to give their maximum cooperation for the success of the policy,” the statement read.President Muhammadu Buhari introduced the order with the best of intentions and not with any motive to punish citizens. The Presidency appeals to state governments, traditional rulers and religious leaders to play active roles in the sensitization and enforcement of the executive order. The Buhari administration is most reluctant to lock down the country and continues to emphasize the non-pharmaceutical measures and the only way to avert lockdowns is to observe these measures as put in place by the Presidential Task Force.Nigerians have come a long way from the dreaded lockdown and the administration is unhappy about any prospects of bringing it back as many citizens will not have food on the table without venturing out on a day-to-day business. We have a duty to protect ourselves and others in this difficult global health crisis; no one has immunity against this pandemic. Ignoring health warnings and refusing to comply with safety measures does more harm than good” the statement read Garba noted that although there is a vaccine for the virus now, the fact that many people do not wear a face mask weakens the fight against the virus. He urged Nigerians to ignore baseless conspiracy theories that seek to deny the reality of the pandemic by complying with the order to wear masks.  ''Though vaccine availability is within reach, the propensity of the public for noncompliance weakens the fight against the virus.Nigerians must ignore baseless conspiracy theories that seek to deny the reality of the pandemic by complying with the order to wear masks. We have a duty to protect ourselves and others in this difficult global health crisis; no one has immunity against this pandemic. Ignoring health warnings and refusing to comply with safety measures does more harm than good. The COVID19 pandemic is a major threat to public health and wearing of masks, social distancing in public places and the basic hygiene are necessary measures that have to be taken to safeguard the well-being of our citizens.Nigerians must always have it in mind that the COVID-19 pandemic is not only a threat to the health of the population but it is equally so to the national economy, and to every aspect of our everyday life.Protecting public health is one of the sacred duties of any responsible government and the administration will not abdicate that responsibility.''the statement read The post Wear your face masks to avoid another lockdown - Presidency warns Nigerians appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

COVID19: Lagos state government bans indoor gatherings of more than 50 persons

As part of measures to contain the second wave of the COVID19 pandemic in the state, the Lagos state government has banned indoor gatherings of more than 50 persons. The state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced this during a press briefing on Sunday, January 31. He said places of worship are exempted from this rule because religious gatherings are not to exceed 50 percent capacity of the space. “The state government has observed with dismay the widespread flagrant disregard and non-adherence to guidelines and protocols aimed at stemming and curbing the tide of infection. We particularly note that some event centres have been operating their premises outside the acceptable parameters for operation/usage and continue to be recalcitrant in this regard. This is to sound a very serious note of warning that henceforth all those found culpable and in breach of the existing regulations and guidelines would be swiftly and decisively dealt with in full accordance with the provisions of the law.In line with the COVID-19 Health Protection Regulations 2021 signed last week by President Muhammadu Buhari, it is hereby directed that no gathering of more than 50 persons shall hold in an enclosed space, except for religious purposes, in which case the gathering shall not exceed 50% capacity of the space.A breach of the provisions of the Presidential Regulations attracts upon summary conviction, a fine or six months imprisonment and or both. Operatives of the Ekiti State Police Command have arrested a suspected female kidnapper, Mrs Kazeem Tawa, who allegedly attempted to abduct three school children in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.  Spokesperson of the command, Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the incident on Friday, said the suspect woman attempted to kidnap the children by asking with them to help carry her bag containing some items to an unknown destination.  "Some residents around INEC Office, Bank Road, Ado-Ekiti, on Thursday, at about 1420hrs, raised an alarm, that a strange woman, identified as Mrs Kazeem Tawa, attempted to abduct three school children along Bank Road, Ado-Ekiti," Abutu said. “Upon the receipt of the information from a good Samaritan. Oyo State Govt seeks information to locate Nigerian student reported missing in Turkey

The Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Matters to Oyo State Governor, Mrs Bolanle Sarumi-Aliyu, has drawn attention to a Nigerian postgraduate student, Jamiu Adebayo Adekunle, who has been declared missing in Turkey since 2020. The missing student from Iseyin, Oyo State, graduated from the University of Ilorin and then proceeded to Uskudar University, Istanbul, for his Master’s degree.Speaking to journalists, Sarumi-Aliyu disclosed that the parents of the missing person had written a letter to the state government through the Diaspora Matters office, seeking assistance to find and return their son home safely.  In the letter written and signed by Jamiu Adebayo's parents, they explained that before their son got missing, he usually contacted them from time to time before the global outbreak of covid-19. The father, Mr Muraina Adekunle in the letter said;“My son, Adebayo, graduated from one of the prestigious universities in Nigeria before he proceeded to Uskudar University, Istanbul, for his master’s degree."He always contacts us regularly before the outbreak of the first phase of coronavirus pandemic. We tried to reach one of his friends over there and he promised to help us look for him."His friend’s name is Samuel. Samuel looked for him but the condition he met him is bad, he told us my son was medically not okay and he was having mental problem with picture sent to us. We made all our possible efforts so that his friends could help take him to hospital but all our efforts was abortive.” Speaking further, Sarumi-Aliyu, said she has reasons to believe that the missing person is currently suffering from mental illness, stressing that revelations from her findings indicated that Jamiu Adebayo Adekunle has been mentally unstable for some time. She said that her office has made considerable efforts to follow up the story brought to her by Mr Muraina Adekunle and has made some shocking discoveries. Some of the contacts she made include the Turkish High Commission in Nigeria, Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) According to Sarumi-Aliyu, her preliminary investigations after receiving feedback from the foreign affairs ministry revealed that parents of the missing person who are peasant farmers have sent over N500,000 to Jamiu’s friends in Turkey since he was first reported missing in 2020.She appealed to the Nigerian community especially those of Oyo state origin resident in Turkey to urgently report to the Nigerian embassy in Turkey or directly contact her via oyostatediasporans@gmail.com, or via her official social media handle oyostate_diasporans, if they have any information about the missing person. The post Oyo State Govt seeks information to locate Nigerian student reported missing in Turkey appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

Former US President Donald Trump reportedly parts with impeachment lawyers a week before trial

Former US President Donald Trump has reportedly parted ways with the two lead lawyers working on his defense for his Senate impeachment trial. The former US president is set to stand trial in the week beginning on February 8 on allegations he incited his supporters to storm Congress before President Joe Biden's inauguration in an attempt to halt the peaceful transition of power. Butch Bowers and Deborah Barberi, two South Carolina lawyers, are no longer on Trump's team, a person familiar with the legal strategy and two attorneys close to the team confirmed on Saturday night, January 30. The source described the move as a "mutual decision." Three other lawyers associated with the team, Josh Howard of North Carolina and Johnny Gasser and Greg Harris of South Carolina, also reportedly parted ways with Trump.Trump reportedly had differences with Bowers over strategy ahead of the trial as he is still contending that he was the victim of mass election fraud in the November 3 election won by President Joe Biden. The news leaves Trump's defense team in turmoil as he prepares for a trial starting on February 9 to consider an article of impeachment passed by the House of Representatives charging Trump with inciting the January 6 storming of the US Capitol by his followers. This comes days after five Senate Republicans voted in favour of an effort to dismiss the trial before it starts, making clear a conviction of the former president is unlikely regardless of his defence team. It will be the first time in US history that any president faced two impeachment trials or that any president was impeached after he left office. The post Former US President Donald Trump reportedly parts with impeachment lawyers a week before trial appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

The street value of this singular seizure is put at over N21b.” The official further disclosed that the development came on the heels of a similar one recorded on January 25, 2021, when red luggage was declared to the NDLEA operatives as a left-over at the E- arrival hall, after the inward clearance of passengers on Ethiopian airline.“Based on information on the tag, the luggage arrived Nigeria from Sao Paulo, Brazil, a destination classified as high-risk country, going by records and trends of arrest and seizures.Subsequently, the bag was transferred to the NDLEA ‘Legal Seat’ being the administrative office at the passenger terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, for detention. While this was going on, the NDLEA Commander at the MMIA, Ahmadu Garba received an intelligence report of a purported plan to clear a consignment containing hard drug through the Lagos airport. Coincidentally, the details sent matched the bag earlier detained by the operatives at the Lagos airport. In a coordinated operation, on January 27, 2021, an NDLEA undercover agent was contacted by one Abubakar Aliyu. Guided by the operation and investigation unit, the undercover agent successfully lured the said Abubakar Aliyu into the cargo terminal of the airport, where he was arrested. The suspect revealed to NDLEA operatives that another person was on his way to receive the bag, based on the instruction of his sender, whose name he gave as Ikechukwu Eze.Consequently, one Emmanuel Iyke Aniebonam, who was to receive the bag was also arrested at NAHCO. During preliminary interview by a team of investigators, Emmanuel confessed that he was instructed by one Ikechukwu to receive the consignment. Emmanuel was again set up to lure in Ikechukwu Eze, but rather than showing up to get the consignment from Emmanuel, he sent another who said he was mandated to receive the consignment from him, and they agreed to meet at Ibis Royal Hotel, a few miles away from the airport.A follow-up operation was quickly organised to the hotel, where one Onwurah Kelvin was arrested and brought to the office. The suspect confessed during interview that he was sent by one Ikechukwu to receive the consignment. Thereafter, the detained bag was opened in the presence of the three suspects, and whitish powdery substances were discovered neatly concealed and sewn inside five children duvets. Field test carried out on the exhibits proved they are cocaine, weighed to be 8.400 kilogrammes, with a street value of over N7b…” The post NDLEA seizes cocaine worth over N30billion at Lagos Airport (photos) appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

Doctor reveals he treated persons with gunshot injuries from Lekki tollgate shootings

Doctor reveals he treated persons with gunshot injuries from Lekki tollgate shootings A doctor at Reddington hospital, Babajide Lawson has disclosed that he treated people with gunshots injuries after the Lekki tollgate shooting of October 20, 2020. The trauma and orthopaedic surgeon at Reddington hospital who testified before the Lagos judicial panel on Saturday January 30 and was cross examined by Olumide Fusika and Adesina Ogunlana, the two lawyers representing victims of the shooting, said there was "mass casualty" from the shooting and victims were brought to Lekki and Victoria Island branch of the hospital on October 20, 21, and 22. When being cross-examined by Fusika to confirm the identities of those he treated, Lawson said;   “Yes, it’s our medical report. I don’t know them personally but I know them as patients that I treated.“Being in charge of trauma, it means that anybody that is involved in traumatic injuries such as accident and gunshots must go through me in both of our locations.“On that 20th, a lot of the patients were treated at the Lekki office. Later on the night of 20th, I also went to the Lekki office to assess the level of assistance needed in my capacity and I also spoke with the MD of that branch. That night, I transferred a patient to the VI office which is our headquarters where I work from and where he stayed till the 23rd.“On the first night, there are about six patients that I saw at that night, but as the day goes by, other patients trickled in.” When asked why a medical report was not issued to one Samuel Oshola who was also treated at the hospital alongside other victims of Lekki tollgate shooting, Lawson responded by saying;   “We witnessed what we can call ‘mass casualty’ that overwhelmed our facilities because a lot of people with varying degrees of gunshot wounds were being brought into the hospital for treatment on October 20 and days after it. “However, if the person is requesting for a report, we would check the treatment files and file a medical report.” Lawson who identified some of his patients as  Ajogwu Japheth, Philemon Lucky, Samuel Oshola, Nnaji Madem, Bright Osariemen, Damilola Adedayo and Joshua Samuel, said he didn't treat Joshua Samuel but made recommendations after it was discovered that a bullet shell logged close to his vital organs. He said victims of the shooting who were treated at Lekki branch of the hospital will be captured in the testimony of one Dr Opakunle who will be appearing before the panel on February 15.The post Doctor reveals he treated persons with gunshot injuries from Lekki tollgate shootings appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

Nigerian elites are harassing us despite our effort, they are not interested in rating competence - Buhari

Nigerian elites are harassing us despite our effort - Buhari President Muhammadu Buhari has accused Nigerian elites of harassing his administration despite its effort.  Speaking in his Daura hometown in Katsina State after revalidating his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Buhari alleged that Nigerian elites are not interested in rating his administration's competence but are rather harassing them.  He said;  “The problem is that I will like especially the elites to please be reflective. When we came, where we were, the resources available from them and the condition of the infrastructure. I was contrived to go over it several times to tell Nigerians that between 1999 and 2014, let them check with the NNPC, let them check with the governor of Central Bank, production was 2.4 million barrels per day and the average cost was $100 per barrel. So for a year’s daily production, Nigeria would earn having 2.4×100 dollars every day. But look at the condition of infrastructure, you know this better than I do. “I know I went to every local government of the country in my three consecutive attempts to become the President. You know the road more than I do. You know the condition of the rail, the railway is dead. Now look at it everywhere we go, what did they do with all these monies?“When we took over the administration, production went down to about half a million barrels per day, the price collapsed. We had to do what is called a bailout, wherever we got the money from. Upon all the money from 1999 to 2014 we gave out money from the Centre to pay salaries. No, Nigerian elites are not interested in rating the competence but they are interested in harassing us with all efforts we are making."The post Nigerian elites are harassing us despite our effort, they are not interested in rating competence - Buhari appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

Hilda Dokubo continues to demand justice for 20-year-old man sentenced to 1 year in prison over Imo Commissioner's 's3x tape' scandal

A 20-year-old school leaver, Peter Nwoke was recently arrested and imprisoned for leaking a video of the lawyer and Federal Commissioner of Imo State Office of Public Complaints Commission.  The 12-second video suggested that the appointee of President Muhammadu Buhari had a threesome, but the convict admitted that he superimposed Amadi's picture on a background with a sex scene. Hilda in a video posted on January 25, insisted that this can never happen as such technology does not exist. The entertainer who noted that she has been in the industry since 1992 and has moved from being an actress to being a director, wondered how much might have been given to the 20-year-old man as ''compensation'' for him to'' jeopardize his future.'' and admit to have done such a thing. In a new video she posted, Hilda is demanding a further investigation into the case as she suspects the accused might have been forced to own up to a crime.''Whoisfoolingwho Pt3Ololololo o nka kaqwanu biati o... this @willie.amadi tori ehn na watoo many twists and turns in one case.Seriously this story will make a fine farce and as my mother will say wherever there is one lie you will most definitely find more lies!WahalaSurely there are still good men in Imo state who can appeal this case. A 20year old should not be the fall man. @willie.amadi should be made to take his own fall himselfEvil prevails when good men fail to actSurely the governor @he_hopeuzodimma and the acting CJ @ijeomaagugua can do something about this poor boy’s pathetic case Watch the video she shared below      View this post on Instagram           A post shared by Lindaikejiblog (@lindaikejiblogofficial)The post Hilda Dokubo continues to demand justice for 20-year-old man sentenced to 1 year in prison over Imo Commissioner's 's3x tape' scandal appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

She hopes that her story encourages a mother who is still in pain after losing a child. She wrote; ''As today ends I have decided to stop calling 29th of Jan the worst day of my life, but now as the day I gained 2 beautiful Angels. I celebrate them! Exactly 3yrs ago, 1 month after our traditional wedding we lost our beautiful set of twins, a boy n a girl.I remember every pain n sweat and tear... I remember not even worrying about myself but staring at my husband wondering if he wld be ok, after seeing his babies go and still having to support me thru surgery how scary that most have been for him. I remember waking up from surgery n asking for him, I was told how he picked them babies up by himself put them in a box and carried them on his lap in the car all the way to the cemetery. Sat with them till all paper works were done and said goodbye to them on behalf of both of us coz he didn’t want me to wake up and deal with all that. All in one day!To God be the glory we pulled through our first year of marriage with such heartbreak, also still dealing with my mums recovery and my husband losing his own mum...Whew! As I watch my daughter today I can’t help but wonder “is this what they would have looked like too?”... how sweet to know she’s all in 1! Today we had 2 butterflies around us constantly I thought oh well there they go watching us!I decided to share this coz when I was depressed n lonely I read other mums stories on IG and they got me thru my days. So maybe there’s just 1 mum out there I can console. The memory and questions never go away, I still cry even now as I type this. U will heal slowly but surely. U will smile again when ur rainbow baby comes. Just like a Chinese cracked bowl, d cracks in ur heart will be filled with gold. Stay strong mama! We are all in this together! Also thank you to our men that have been patient through the healing, God bless you  hubby! @zsihughez  #alwaysIyaIbeji #miscarriageawareness''The post Ex-model, Sarah Ofili-Adukeh encourages other mothers as she shares sad story of how she lost her pregnancy one month after her traditional wedding appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

Man reveals what his work place did when he informed them that he's a cross-dresser

A man named Braxton Walker took to Facebook to reveal what his work place did when he informed them that he's a cross-dresser. To allow him gain access into the building no matter how he's dressed, he was given two ID badges, one with his face while he's dressed in female clothes and a wig and another with him dressed as a man. He shared both badges to Facebook and his post quickly went viral with people praising his work place for inclusivity.  He later returned to Facebook to write: "Lol. I woke up and my face was all over the Internet." He attributed the reaction he got from his workplace to equality, writing: "And that's on equality." The post Man reveals what his work place did when he informed them that he's a cross-dresser appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

If you’re against Eastern Security Network, Receive sense' - Nnamdi Kanu

IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has come out to address those who are against the formation of the Eastern Security Network. The Eastern Security Network (ESN) is a regional security force and a paramilitary wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), based in the Igbo part of Nigeria.Upon the formation of the ESN, Kanu stated that the group was necessary to protect Igbo natives and farmers from attacks by Fulani herdsmen. Some critics have faulted the creation of the security outfit, saying it's just a pretext for a military wing of the IPOB aimed at insurrection and secession, but Kanu and his supporters claim the group is no different from the Islamic police in the North and Amotekun in the South West. Taking to Twitter on Saturday night, January 30, Kanu stated that anyone who is against the ESN should 'receive sense.'  He wrote;"If you’re against Eastern Security Network, who will stop Fulani herdsmen & their allies in the Army/Police from murdering/raping you in your homes, farms & highways? Is it the Army/Police that are complicit or the @NGRPresident that enables them by pardoning them?
