Mariah Carey's Twitter account was hacked on Tuesday afternoon, after which numerous racist slurs and Eminem-directed tweets were shared with her 21.4 million followers on the platform. Though it’s unclear who is behind the hack, tweets shared on her account mentioned the Chuckling Squad, a hacker group that compromised Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey's account in August. Most of the tweets shared on Tuesday afternoon were quickly deleted, but Eminem took the major burn and there was also a retweet of another account referencing his daughter. “Personally I don’t think racism is real, it’s just pussy boy talk,” one tweet read. “Eminem has a small penis,” read another. (Mariah Carey and rapper Eminem once had a very public feud, in which he claimed to have slept with the singer.) The last tweet appeared by 3:35 pm on Tuesday December 31, showing a photo of a shirtless teenager with the caption reading, "xbox n—." Commenting on the hack, a Twitter spokesperson said; "As soon as we were made aware of the issue, we locked the compromised account and are currently investigating the situation." Also reacting to the hack, Mariah Carey disclosed that she was sleeping when it occurred. She tweeted; This is coming after Mariah Carey became the first-ever performer to score singles that hit the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 list over four decades - the 1990s, 2000s, 2010s and 2020s.The post Mariah Carey's Twitter account hacked, Eminem-directed tweets and racist slurs shared appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

Democracy would have collapsed in 2015 if Jega had caved in â Garba Shehu
Mr Garba Shehu has shared his thoughts on the 2015 Presidential election in which President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC), unseated Dr. Goodluck Jonathan of the People's Democratic Party. Appearing on a special end of the year programme '2019 End Of A Decade' on Channels Television, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity said he believed democracy would have ended if Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega had caved in to the pressure of denying President Buhari victory. He said; “We thank God for Jega and the civil society activism at that time because if Jega had caved in, this democracy would have collapsed at that time.“So, it is an interesting time that we had lived through and then, it tells a story of the resilience of our democracy and that we shouldn’t just toy with it. It didn’t come cheap, it didn’t come easy.” Commenting on APC's expection of Jega before the announcement of results, Shehu said the party officials monitored the election exercise closely. He also alleged that there were moves by the ruling party at that time to seize power. He said; “For us in the situation room at that time, it was an attempt to grab power or to hold on to power by regime elements or beneficiaries of the system who saw defeat staring them in the face.“Before those results got to the INEC chairman and he announced them, you are aware that parties had representatives at the lowest of the point; the polling units and the local councils, and the states.“They did a collation of their own and they had a sense of how or which direction things were going. So, it was obvious to those regime elements at that time that the regime was falling"The post Democracy would have collapsed in 2015 if Jega had caved in Garba Shehu appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

2019 was not a successful year for Nigerians, we're still in the throes of economic instability - Atiku Abubakar
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has described 2020 as symbolic in many ways, saying it’s time to work for a better future for Nigerians. In his new year message, Atiku noted that the year heralds a brand new decade. See the full statement below...The coming of the New Year 2020 is symbolic in many ways. First, it heralds a brand new decade. Secondly, and probably more important, is that this New Year will require us all to stay together more than ever before to take on, head front, the common enemy of insecurity that challenge our everyday lives as Nigerians.I do not share the sentiment when some people claim that the outgone 2019 was a successful year for Nigerians. Such sentiments is reductionist and does the harm of making us have a false sense of victory. The bitter truth is that Nigeria is still in the throes of economic instability, with more people losing jobs and the attendant outcome of more children being out of school and more families having hard time in accessing basic needs of life. In this New Year, however, I will rather ask that Nigerians stand together with renewed vigour and determination to battle the hydra-headed demon of insecurity that has plagued us in the past decade. We must challenge the inadequacies that made us become the global headquarters of extreme poverty; much as we must work hard and fast enough to eliminate the scourge of out-of-school children in the country. These are the challenges that this new decade has thrown at us and we cannot afford to slumber and submit to defeat. The problems of extreme poverty and scant investments in education play huge roles in fueling the problems of violent extremism that we spent the past decade contending with. We cannot win the fight against terrorism if we do nothing to reduce or eliminate poverty and illiteracy. The reality of this new decade requires of us to recalibrate our approaches and to pursue some tough choices. If failure is not an option, then we must let go of our egos and conveniences. In this new decade, we must start to do things differently if we are honest about our desire for a better and prosperous future. There must be a deliberate effort to improve the material wellbeing of the people, by lifting millions of Nigerians out of the extreme poverty belt at a start, and to prosperity. Government must rethink many of its policies that is sinking more people into the abyss of extreme poverty. It is incumbent on government at all levels to pursue policies that will provide decent housing to the mass majority; put food on the table; provide healthcare and education. We cannot continue to do things the same way and expect a different outcome. It is therefore high time we caused a rejig of economic policies that will promote an expansion of the economy and create jobs opportunities aplenty. At the individual level, this moment calls for more empathy and sacrifice. The New Year and a new decade come with the opportunity to make better impressions in our lives and in the lives of people around us.I wish to restate that our collective call for rule of law and our history about the struggle for democratic rule did not envisage a situation where judicial pronouncements would be worth less than the paper upon which they are rendered. It is a bad advertisement for the country and its democracy if declarations made by the court are not respected without the executive arm of government agreeing to same.Any democracy is not worth the appellation if the principle of separation of power is not ingrained in it. In the new year, government should not pretend to be democratic, but rather act according to the fundamentals of a democracy.Above all, I expect that in the New Year there will be a better observance of rule of law and greater respect for citizens’ democratic rights. While we anticipate a change of attitude across board in the new year and new decade, I wish every Nigerian a happy and prosperous 2020. - AA. Man narrates how he ended up in the hospital after the engagement ring he bought to propose with got stuck on his finger
A man has shared the hilarious story of how he ended up in a hospital after the engagement ring he bought to propose to his girlfriend with got stuck on his finger for hours. @TheCharlesIsidi said he spent so much money getting the ring. When he got home, he brought it out to admire it, then slipped it onto his pinky finger. When it was time to remove it, it refused to come off and his finger began swelling. He tried several methods but nothing worked so he had to be taken to the hospital at about 12 midnight. At the hospital, he was told he'd have to lose the expensive ring he bought with most of his salary. The ring was eventually cut because that was the only way to get it off. Twitter users were amused by the story. Read it below. Update: How I helped robbers in foiled Abuja bank robbery- Bank Staff
Larry Ehizo, a Customer Service Officer of a first-generation bank in Abuja, has told the police how he got involved in last Saturday's failed bank robbery attack in Mbappe, a surburb in the Federal Capital of Territory. Larry who was paraded before newsmen at the FCT police command headquarters, said the mastermind of the robbery, one Ernest, who is at large, had threatened to kill him, his girlfriend and his family if he did not help him and his gang members to rob the bank. The 30-year-old University of Abuja graduate, said he drove the five robbers into the bank premises in his vehicle. In his words“I met a friend (Ernest) in November and we had a discussion where we used to hang out and I said something after he complained about our services in the bank and we almost got into a serious argument and I told him that the only thing he would do is get angry and maybe not bank again with us. He said he was going to hurt someone and I told him not to do that. That the highest he can do is to do that or maybe rob the bank to make them feel bad.I did not know he had that on record and he used that to threaten that after some time that I must take the people that he would bring into the bank. He threatened my family, myself and even the people around me. Even my girlfriend. After that, I was afraid to go to the police because he said even if I go to the police that he had already informed his colleagues and because he is a cultist and he said that anything I get after that I should take it.“That is when he brought them. I still begged him and he went as far as my family house and threatened to kill them. He now brought them on that day that I should take them in and tell them what to do.“He even followed to the bank but escaped when they caught them. He insisted I take my car to take them inside the place and that was the only thing I was supposed to do and leave the rest for them to do. The person is at large. His name is Ernest.I didn’t report to the police because of the threat. He actually brought his fellow cultists to my house and threatened me and my girlfriend that I must take them. He said he was going to give them N7 million. He said I was going to get 20 per cent and I told him I did not want anything. He said I must collect it. I am a Customer Service Officer. I have been with the bank for over two years. If I had gone to the police I would not have been here talking now. Members of my family also would not be. He knows my family house and knows where I stay personally at Mpape. He waited to see when we entered inside and he immediately called me and I did everything out of fear of not dying and not having anyone dying because of me. Ernest is a customer at the bank. He comes around. There is a place I go to hang out in Mpape. He is a barman there. He sells drinks. On normal situations, we have sat down to have drinks. We discussed football, family and how to move forward. He is a barman''. One of the suspects, 24-year- old Princewill Obinna, said Larry and the said ''Ernest'' assured him and the other robbers that it would be an in-and-out operation. ‘I was among those people that robbed the bank. It happened that Mr Larry invited us. Mr Ernest met us and told us there is a job we wanted to do but he would connect us to the person that had the work. I asked him who the person. So he called me and introduced us to Mr Larry, who told us that there is an event that he wants us to carry out that Ernest has been troubling him. That if only we can successfully do it, that he and Ernest have the background and survey, that they are going to guide us. That it is going to be stressless (sic) and that within some minutes we are going to wrap up the deal.I said what was the deal about and he said it was a bank. I was shocked and said I have never done such before. He said we should not worry that there is a vehicle that is tinted and nobody would see us and that everyone would be okay. He asked if I know some persons that can help us and I said I had friends that come around and they said okay. They also never wanted to do it but we all agreed at the end of the day. That is how we came to find ourselves there.“The message came to me on Tuesday and the operation was on Saturday. So we were just thinking about what they told us that it would be easy and they would give us money. They promised to give us N7 million to share. I coordinated the other boys. The ammunition we took there was a local pistol that our late friend (robber who was shot) brought. He said he would be the one to stand at the gate and that I should hold this one and threaten the Mobile man'' he said According to the police, no money was stolen during the attack. The post Update: How I helped robbers in foiled Abuja bank robbery- Bank Staff appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

The spirit did not bring any money - Prophet who aided in killing and eating of LASU final year student
Segun Philip, the white-garment church Prophet who colloborated with Adeeko Owolabi and his mother Bola in killing of a final-year student of the Lagos State University (LASU) Favour Daley-Oladele, has revealed that the money-ritual they embarked on did not work out. The Pastor disclosed that he went through the money ritual process with Owolabi without the knowledge of his mother upon being paraded before newsmen. He said; “What Owolabi and I discussed is that when they use the concoction once, the money will come once, but his mother doesn’t know that; we just told her that when she uses it, she will be receiving contracts from everywhere.“But the spirit did not bring money at all, the ritual did not work." 23-year-old Owolabi who expressed regrets over the sad act, said; “There was a well there already which the church was planning on using but they abandoned it for years. It was there we put the remaining part of her body then I covered it with sand.Owolabi said that “my dad has lost his job for some years and my mum has been the one helping the family; she also lost her job, but she started doing some contract jobs. After some time, she stopped receiving contracts.“From that day, I started regretting my action, even before we were arrested.” The emotional father of the money ritual victim, said they all looked forward to Favour becoming the first female graduate in the house. He said; “It is quite emotional, having raised that girl for that number of years; Favour happens to be a golden girl to the family. We waited for some years before having her, she went to school and when we envisaged that in a few months, she will be going for her NYSC, and start celebrating a female graduate in the house, then some people conspire to kill her is touching.“All we want is justice for Favour and I believe it will serve as a deterrent to others who are in this kind of thing."The post The spirit did not bring any money - Prophet who aided in killing and eating of LASU final year student appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

Exclusive update: Lagos police command confirms arrest of 11 miscreants during Naira Marley's concert
Bala Elkana, the spokesperson of the Lagos state police command, has confirmed the arrest of 11 miscreants at Eko Hotel and Suites, venue of Naira Marley's concert, Marlian Fest, which held last night. Earlier today, a video of some of the acclaimed Naira Marley fans aka Marlians, locked up in a taskforce van, surfaced online. The men who claimed to be Marlians were seen in the video begging the police and other officers to release them after they were picked up. Recall that videos of some of the suspected fans of the singer scaling the fence of the Eko Hotel and Suites to gain entrance into the concert surfaced online. LIB reached out to Mr Elkana for his comment on the arrest. According to him, some of those arrested were miscreants outside the Hotel, who attempted to steal the phones of those attending the concert. He said others that were arrested tried forcing their way into the venue when they had no ticket. According to Bala, the concert was generally peacful''We have 11 suspects arrested and mostly outside the event venue. These are miscreants who come mainly to steal. Some of them were arrested after stealing handsets from some fans that wanted to enter. So when they attempted stealing handsets, police quickly rushed and arrested them and picked them. Some of those arrested also had no tickets, they just came trying to force their way into the event venue. The tight security could not allow them and so they were picked and handed over to the police for trying to cause commotion there. They were picked by the police and other security outfits that were there. But the concert was generally peaceful, the whole event was peaceful'' he said Bala said the suspects are currently being detained at the Bar Beach police station and they would charged to court.
