Military to withdraw soldiers from some parts of Nigeria, police to take over fight against internal insurgency lindaikejisblogThe Nigerian military at the end of the security meeting which was held in Abuja on Monday December 30, annonced its plan to withdraw troops from some parts of the country.  Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas who made the announcement, said the withdrawal is aimed at allowing civil authorities take over the duties of ensuring the security of lives and property in such places and also allow the military focus on its primary duty of defending the nation against external aggression. He also disclosed that the withdrawal of troops will be done after an assessment to determine areas where peace has returned to.  He said;  “It is the work of the police to handle internal security since Nigeria is not at war.“The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps will support the police to provide internal security." Ibas who admitted that the recent activities of Boko Haram across the country needs great concern, gave the assurance that the military would comply with the President’s directive to intensify efforts in the coming year.The post Military to withdraw soldiers from some parts of Nigeria, police to take over fight against internal insurgency appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.
