Nigerians react after BBC described re-elected AfDB president, Akinwunmi Adesina, as ''Flamboyant Nigerian Banker''

Nigerians have taken to social media to bash BBC for describing re-elected president of the African Development Bank AfDB, Akinwunmi Adesina, as a ''Fambloyant Nigerian Banker'' Adesina was re-elected for a second term of five years at the virtual Annual General Meeting of the bank which held on Thursday August 27. Adesina's re-election almost suffered a setback after some staff of the bank, in January 2020, accused him of breaching 20 of the bank’s code of conduct, including “unethical conduct, private gain, an impediment to efficiency, preferential treatment, and involvement in political activities”.  The United States Department of Treasury even requested an independent investigation into allegations leveled against Adesina. Read here. Adesina who was a one-time Minister of Agriculture in Nigeria denied the allegations and an investigation panel cleared him of all the allegations. After his re-election yesterday, BBC did a report and on its headline, described him as a ''Flamboyant Nigerian banker''. Nigerians believe the word ''Flamboyant'' was used so as to portray Adesina in a bad light. They took to the comment section of the post on Twitter, to bash BBC and also suggested other words that could have been used to describe him.
